71-year-old Winnie woman dies in Tuesday afternoon wreck on Highway 73 in Winnie

The driver of the pickup was taken to a Southeast Texas hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

WINNIE, Texas — A 71-year-old Winnie woman was killed in a wreck along Texas Highway 73 late Tuesday afternoon.

Paula Long, 71, of Winnie, died at the scene of the accident along Texas Highway 73 at Englin Rd. near Winnie Tuesday according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Preliminary  investigation by troopers shows that around 4:49 p.m., a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck was headed west on Texas Highway 73 as Toyota Camry, driven by Long, was headed north on Englin Road. Long didn't yield to the Dodge pickup and was hit, according to the news release.

The driver of the pickup was taken to a Southeast Texas hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The wreck happened in front of the Exxon Mobile Gas Station.
