Six inmates, 3 correctional officers injured in Port Acres prison van wreck late Monday night

None of their injuries appear to be life-threatening and all are reported to be in stable condition.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Port Arthur Police are investigating a late Monday night wreck involving a prison van carrying six inmates and a pickup truck in Port Acres.

The wreck happened at about 10 p.m. at the intersection of FM 365 and Jade Rd in Port Acres.

Six inmates and three correctional officers were in the van and all were taken by ambulance to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont after a Texas Department of Criminal Justice van carrying inmates and a Ford pickup collided according to TDCJY spokesperson, Robert Hurst.

None of their injuries appear to be life-threatening and all are reported to be in stable condition Hurst said.

All of the inmates from the van are accounted for.

No information has been released yet on how the wreck may have happened.

Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies also responded to the wreck along with police, firefighters and medics.
