JEFFERSON COUNTY, Texas — A Port Arthur woman was cited after four people were injured in a multi-vehicle crash that caused a Jeep to catch fire.
It happened Tuesday, May 16, 2023 on Highway 347 at the intersection of 39th Street. Texas Department of Public Safety troopers believe the driver of a 2016 Jeep SUV was driving north and failed to control her speed as she approached a red light.
The driver of the Jeep hit the back of a 2017 Hyundai SUV, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety release. This caused a multi-vehicle wreck that involved a 2015 Chevrolet pickup, a 2019 Ford SUV, and a 2014 Jeep SUV.
The 2016 Jeep SUV then caught fire.
The driver of the 2016 Jeep was taken to a hospital to be treated for her injuries and cited for failing to control her speed, according to the release.
The driver of the 2017 Hyundai, the driver of the 2015 Chevrolet and the driver of the 2019 Ford were all taken to an area hospital to be treated for their injuries.
The driver of the 2014 Jeep was not injured.

JEFFERSON COUNTY – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers investigated a multiple vehicle crash on state Highway 347, at the intersection of 39th Street, that occurred today, May 16, 2023.
The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 8:20 a.m., a 2016 Jeep SUV was traveling north. It is reported that the driver failed to control her speed as she approached a red light and struck the rear of a 2017 Hyundai SUV, which caused a chain reaction with a 2015 Chevrolet pickup, a 2019 Ford SUV, and a 2014 Jeep SUV. The 2016 Jeep SUV then caught fire.
The driver of the 2016 Jeep SUV, as 25-year-old Port Arthur woman, was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Cruz was cited for fail to control speed.
The driver of the 2017 Hyundai SUV was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the 2015 Chevrolet pickup was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The driver of the 2019 Ford SUV was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the 2014 Jeep SUV was not injured.
