Police: One dead after Chevrolet crashes into tree, ignites into flames in Beaumont Monday night

The victim has not been identified, Officer Carol Riley told 12News.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police are investigating after one person died in a fiery Monday night wreck.

The call regarding the wreck came in shortly before 11 p.m. Beaumont Police Information Officer Carol Riley told 12News it happened in the 6100 block of Cardinal Drive southbound.

Police believe a person was driving northbound in a Chevrolet Traverse when at some point they left the roadway and hit a tree in the grassy center median. The Chevrolet then ignited into flames.

At this time, it is unknown what caused the driver to leave the roadway.

The victim has not been identified, Officer Riley told 12News.

The wreck closed Cardinal Drive northbound from FM 3514, which is just south of the jail, to Martin Luther King for a while. The area has since been reopened.
