ROSE CITY, Texas — Troopers with the Texas Department of Public Safety are investigating after two people died in a wreck involving seven vehicles.
The wreck happened Wednesday on Interstate 10 in Rose City at mile marker 858, according to a Texas DPS release.
A 2004 Ford SUV was traveling in the inside lane when its back left tire blew out. The driver of the Ford SUV lost control and was hit by a 2015 Dodge pickup that was traveling in the center lane.
Other cars involved in the crash were a 2019 Ford pickup, a 2020 Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer, a 2006 Toyota passenger car, a 2021 Hyundai passenger car, and a 2018 Dodge pickup.
The drivers of the 2004 Ford SUV and 2006 Toyota passenger car were taken to CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth for treatment.
The drivers of the 2015 Dodge pickup, 2019 Ford pickup, 2020 Peterbilt and 2018 Dodge pickup were not injured.
The driver and passenger of the Hyundai passenger car were pronounced dead on the scene. The driver is identified as 77-year-old Joe Serhan and passenger, 79-year-old Joyce Serhan, both of Westminster, Colorado, according to DPS.
The wreck previously shut down the westbound lanes of Interstate 10, but they have since been reopened.

UPDATE: The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 1 p.m., a 2004 Ford SUV was traveling in the inside lane. It is reported that the rear left tire on the Ford SUV blew out, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle when it was struck by a 2015 Dodge pickup traveling in the center lane. Also involved in the crash was a 2019 Ford pickup, a 2020 Peterbilt truck tractor semi-trailer, a 2006 Toyota passenger car, a 2021 Hyundai passenger car, and a 2018 Dodge pickup.
The driver of the 2004 Ford SUV was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the 2015 Dodge pickup was not injured.
The driver of the 2019 Ford pickup was not injured.
The driver of the Peterbilt was not injured.
The driver of the 2006 Toyota passenger car was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.
The driver and passenger of the Hyundai passenger car were pronounced deceased on the scene by a Justice of the Peace. Their identities are not immediately available pending the notification of their next of kin.
The driver of the 2018 Dodge pickup was not injured.
The investigation remains ongoing, and there is no additional information available at this time.
