Motorcycle wreck sends one man to the hospital, backs up westbound IH-10 in Rose City

ROSE CITY, Texas — Police and and first responders have investigated the multiple-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle Thursday morning along Interstate 10 in Rose City.

Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff's Office along with troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety Traffic responded to the wreck which was reported around 8:15 a.m. Thursday.

Traffic was shut down to one lane along westbound Interstate 10 in Rose City near mile marker 858 after a  2014 Ford pickup truck, traveling westbound in the inside lane, slowed due to stopped traffic on the highway.

The Ford pick up was followed by a 2004 Honda motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle saw the traffic and began to move into the right lane, according to a DPS news release.

As the motorcycle moved into the right lane, the driver of Ford pulled in front of him and was struck by the motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle is 36-year-old Joseph Perry, of Beaumont. Perry was taken by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital with minor injuries, officials said. Perry was wearing a helmet, according to the news release.

22-year-old Hector Robles, of Vidor, was the driver in the Ford pickup. He was not injured in the crash. Robles was issued a citation for unsafe lane change, DPS said.

There is no additional information at this time, according to DPS Sergeant Stephanie Davis.

Just after 9 a.m. traffic maps showed westbound traffic in the area backed up for about two miles.

At approximately 8:15a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Rose City, Texas. The crash involved a motorcycle.

The initial crash report indicates that a 2014 Ford pickup truck was traveling westbound, in the inside lane, on Interstate 10 followed by a 2004 Honda motorcycle. 

The driver of the Ford slowed due to stopped traffic on I-10. The driver of the motorcycle sees the traffic and begins to move into the right lane. 

As the motorcycle moves to the right lane, the driver of Ford pulls in front of him and was struck by the motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle, 36-year-old Joseph Perry of Beaumont, was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth hospital with minor injuries. Perry was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Ford, 22-year-old Hector Robles of Vidor, was not injured in the crash.

Robles was issued a citation for unsafe lane change. At this time, there are no additional details to be released.
