BEAUMONT, Texas — A Houston man and a San Antonio woman who were passengers in separate vehicles died Monday night in a wreck along Interstate 10 near Beaumont.
The wreck which happened just west of Beaumont at Highway 365 claimed the lives of Tulio Funes Canales, 40, of Houston and Timotea Borja, 71, of San Antonio according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The wreck happened at about 8:20 p.m. when a westbound 2004 Honda passenger car driven by Kelvin Rivera, 28, of Houston, crossed into the eastbound lanes according to the release.
The Honda struck a 2019 Doidge passenger van driven by Andresina Borja, 32, of San Antonio, the release said.
Caneles was a passenger in the Honda while Timotea Borja was a passenger in the back of the van which was carrying six other passengers according to DPS troopers.
One of the passengers from the van was flown from the scene to a Houston hospital by a helicopter.
Both drivers and the other passengers in the Dodge van were taken to a Southeast Texas hospital for treatment.
Troopers are continuing to investigate the wreck.

JEFFERSON COUNTY – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is investigating a crash on Interstate 10 on Monday, September 20, 2021.
The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 8:20 p.m., a crash involving multiple vehicles has occurred on I-10 at Farm-to-Market 365.
There have been multiple injuries reported including two deceased.
Their identities are not available at this time.
The eastbound lanes of the Interstate are currently shut down. Motorists should expect delays.
The crash remains under investigation, no additional information at this time.
