Beaumont man killed after box truck strikes UTV along Texas 73 on west side of Port Arthur

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — A Beaumont man driving a side-by-side UTV was killed in a wreck along Texas Highway 73 on the west side of Port Arthur Tuesday morning.

A commercial refrigerated box truck struck the Kubota side-by-side UTV just before 10 a.m. in the 1800 block of Texas Highway 73 according to a Port Arthur Police Department news release.

The UTV driver, Ricardo Davila, 52, of Beaumont, was found unresponsive at the scene and Port Arthur firefighters and Acadian EMS medics were unable to resuscitate him according a news release identifying him Wednesday morning.

Davila was pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Precinct Eight Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam.

The wreck is being investigated by the Port Arthur Police Department's Advanced Accident Reconstruction Team.

The wreck forced the shut down of eastbound Texas 73 from West Port Arthur Rd as well as northbound traffic on Texas highway 82 at Texas Highway 73 according to a Facebook post by police.

Traffic headed eastbound Texas 73 is being diverted on West Port Arthur Rd and northbound Texas 82 traffic is being diverted onto eastbound Texas 73 police said.

On Tuesday, September 27, 2022 approximately 9:57AM, Port Arthur Police Officers were dispatched to the 1800 W. SH 73, in reference to a major motor vehicle accident.  Officers arrived on scene and found a side-by-side UTV and a commercial box truck were involved.  

The driver of the side-by-side was unresponsive.  Port Arthur Fire Department and Acadian EMS were on scene performing emergency lifesaving efforts to the victim but were unable to resuscitate him.

Justice of the Peace Tom Gillam was notified and the victim was pronounced deceased on scene.  The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notifications.

This incident is currently under investigation by the Advanced Accident Reconstruction Team of the Port Arthur Police Department.
