BEAUMONT, Texas — Two people were taken to a hospital after an incident involving a tanker truck Tuesday closed down a section of Washington Boulevard.
District Chief Scott Wheat of the Beaumont Fire Department told 12News Trimac Transportation employees were washing out trucks carrying hazardous material and opened a valve. This led to a leak in the 5000 block of Washington Boulevard.
At this time, it is unclear what the hazardous substance is.
The incident previously closed a section of Washington Boulevard from Washington Village Parkway to Chamberlin Drive. The area has since been reopened.
At least one building in the area was evacuated, and two Trimac Transportation employees lost consciousness at the scene. They were taken to an area hospital.
Chief Wheat said two first responders were, "treated as being exposed for safety protocol only." He said, "no responder has been symptomatic or experienced symptoms."
