I-10 westbound back open at Smith Rd. after 18-wheeler hits bridge

Westbound lanes are back open to traffic

BEAUMONT, Texas — I-10 westbound has reopened south of Beaumont near Smith Road after an 18-wheeler hit an overpass. 

TxDOT has a bridge engineer inspecting the Smith Road overpass. 

DPS says the vehicle was carrying a mud pump, and a portion of the load struck the Smith Road overpass.  

No injuries were reported.

I-10 and Smith Rd. intersect near the Goodyear Plant.

From a DPS news release: 

At approximately 2:30p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 10 at Smith Road in Jefferson County.  The crash involved a commercial motor vehicle.

The initial DPS crash investigation indicates that a commercial motor vehicle transporting a mud pump was traveling westbound on Interstate 10. A portion of the load struck the Smith Road overpass.

There were no injuries reported.

At this time, all westbound traffic lanes of Interstate 10 have reopened to traffic.  Motorists are urged to pay attention for slow moving or stopped traffic.

The Smith Road overpass is closed until further notice from the Texas Department of Transportation.

There are no additional details to be released.
