Fatal three-vehicle crash on I-10 causes traffic headed towards Houston

The crash happened heading towards Houston near the College Street exit.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A fatal three-vehicle crash on I-10 westbound in Beaumont is causing traffic.

The crash happened heading towards Houston near the College Street exit just before 5 p.m. Friday afternoon.

It was caused when a silver Chevy Malibu rear-ended an 18-wheeler, according to Judge Ben Collins. The driver of the car, 35-year-old Elijah Ozuna, of Houston, is dead and an autopsy has been ordered.

Two other passengers were taken to the hospital.

Witnesses say that the driver of the Malibu was traveling at a high rate of speed and clipped a vehicle before rear-ending the 18-wheeler, according to Beaumont police Officer Carol Riley.

A third vehicle was sideswiped and had no injuries. The driver of the 18-wheeler was also not injured.

All IH-10 southbound lanes at College Street are shut down and traffic is being diverted to the feeder for about another hour.
