28-year-old Beaumont man on bicycle struck, killed overnight along Eastex Freeway

The man was pronounced dead at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital.

BEAUMONT, Texas — A 28-year-old Beaumont man is dead after being struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle along a Beaumont highway late Monday night.

Beaumont Police are investigating the overnight death of the  man who was struck while riding a bicycle in the 8000 block of Eastex Freeway, which is also known as U.S. Highway 69, according to a Beaumont Police Department spokesperson.

The man has been identified as Herman L. Alexander, 28, of Beaumont according to Precinct One Justice of the Peace Ben Collins. 

Police say Alexander was riding a bicycle in the traffic lanes of the highway just before midnight Monday and appeared to be traveling in the same direction as the vehicle that struck him.

Alexander was pronounced dead at Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont according to Collins who has ordered an autopsy.

His name was released after his next of kin was notified.
