BEAUMONT, Texas — The driver of an 18-wheeler that burst into flames following a wreck Thursday afternoon is recovering in a Galveston hospital.
The wreck forced the shutdown of the entire interstate at the Neches River Bridge for more than an hour with the westbound lanes continuing to be closed until after 5:30 p.m. when a west bound lane opened. All westbound lanes were reopened by about 8:30 p.m.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was flown to a Galveston hospital by a medical helicopter on Thursday.
By Friday afternoon police reported that he was in "critical but stable" condition.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
