HOUSTON — Miami Dolphins receiver Grant DuBose is set to head home Wednesday after spending the last few days in a Houston hospital following Sunday’s game at NRG Stadium. Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel gave an update during a press conference earlier in the day.
"We're all excited to get to see him," McDaniel said. DuBose was also placed on Injured Reserve. Players placed on this list are required to miss four games thus ending the receiver's season with just three games left.
DuBose was hospitalized following an injury during Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.
On Monday, Dolphins team officials said DuBose was staying at the hospital for evaluation. They reported that he had movement in all extremities, and initial tests revealed positive results on Monday morning.
However, doctors wanted to keep him under observation a little longer.
DuBose's injury led to an extended stoppage of play during Sunday's game. He was going across the middle trying to haul in a pass from Miami's Tua Tagovailoa in the third quarter when the Texans' Calen Bullock hit him with what appeared to be a helmet-to-helmet blow.
Play during the game was stopped for more than 10 minutes as medical personnel attended to DuBose on the field. They cut DuBose’s jersey off of him and removed his facemask before restraining his extremities and carting him off the field.
DuBose appeared to clench both fists after the hit — movements consistent with what’s referred to as the “fencing response,” which can be common after a traumatic brain injury — before remaining motionless as medical personnel rushed to his side.
He was taken to Houston's Memorial Hermann Hospital for a head injury.
Bullock was flagged on the play – a 15-yard penalty.
“I was praying that he would be OK,” Bullock said after the game. “I wasn’t trying to go out there and hurt nobody.”
DuBose is a second-year player out of Charlotte.
