Lamar softball says road schedule contributed to first conference series win

The Cardinals return home this weekend for a three-game series against Southeastern Louisiana.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar softball hasn't played a game in Beaumont since November 2022.

This weekend the Cardinals are hosting their first home conference matchup against Southeastern Louisiana.

In their first Southland series of the season, the Cardinals beat Northwestern State twice in Natchitoches, LA.

Those two wins was Lamar's first Southland Conference series win in two years.

In 2021, Lamar finished the season 8-43 overall and 4-23 in conference play , so their first series win against the Demons was a confidence boost, and head coach Amy Hooks says their road schedule prepared them for the moment.

"We've had games throughout this season that has prepared us and we've been playing on somebody else's turf all season long so when you get to settle in and finally be at home, it's kind of like we're kind of the visiting team this weekend because we haven't been at home, but it is our home turf, so I think just the schedule that we prepared for 'em has prepared them for kind of anything that's gonna be thrown at us," Coach Hooks said. "I think it prepared us for a really good opening Southland Conference series on the road at Northwestern State so just wanting to take that in, and, you know, you learn a lot about each other on the road so these girls are behind each other, supporting each other and then hopefully that just continues throughout the season."

The Cardinals start their three-game series against Southeastern Louisiana Friday at 3 p.m.
