BEAUMONT, Texas — When the 2022 Cardinal Hall of Honor class was originally recognized during football season, Reggie Begelton had to miss out.
Yesterday, Begelton got his moment at the men's basketball game against New Orleans.
Begelton is from Beaumont and played football at Lamar when the program was just starting up.
The former West Brook Bruin was ranked among Lamar's all-time leaders in points.
Begelton finished his Cardinal career as the Southland Conference's second all-time leading receiver.
However, Begelton said originally he didn't see himself going to Lamar after high school but he embraced the path and good things happened.
"Honestly I had a vision," Begelton said. "I had a plan. Everything on the backend happened because of that plan. It wasn't nothing that I was really striving for. That's one of the messages I want to get out to the kids is have your plan, have your vision and go after it. There's a lot of good things that will happen in the end. Just stay focused and determined."
Begelton has played for the Canadian Football League's Calgary Stampeders since 2017.
He told 409Sports he plans on being around the area more. He also said he thinks the new Lamar football coaching era will bring success.
