Calmese adds confidence to Lamar's conference play

After knocking down Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Nate Calmese says the Cardinals can compete with any team in the Southland.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Lamar men's basketball has its second win of the season after beating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 68-66.

Nate Calmese had a game high 21-points that chipped away at the Islander's  16-point second half lead. His performance helped boost the Cardinals to 2-4 in conference play and 6-13 overall.

"Our coaches push me every day to be ready for those moments," Calmese said. "I was just ready for the moment and took advantage of it."

"We beat the top two teams and we almost had the other top team beat so we can compete with anybody in this conference," Calmese said. "We've just gotta play hard and be the toughest team on the court so we're ready for anybody that wants to play us."

The Cardinals continue conference play against a 1-5 UIW.
