Adams' career-high earns her Southland Conference weekly honor

BEAUMONT, Texas — For the second straight week, a member of the Lamar University women's basketball team was selected by the Southland Conference as Jersey Mike's Women's Basketball Player of the Week. This time, however, it was Portia Adams who earned her first career weekly honor after her two-game performance against Houston Christian University.

Leading LU to a sweep of the Huskies last week, the native of Cedar Hill, Texas averaged 21.0 points per game. On Thursday night, Adams went off for a career-high 32 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the field including three treys from downtown and went seven-of-eight from the free throw line. She had 24 points by halftime and 31 by the end of the third quarter as she helped Big Red to a 71-63 victory. Although she had 10 points in the rematch two days later, she was able to to be effectively with two steals in a hard-fought 55-53 win. For the week, Adams also converted 57.1% from the field and grabbed six rebounds per game.

Adams in one of three Cardinals to average double-figures in scoring (12.3 ppg) only trailing teammates Sabria Dean (13.8 ppg) and Akasha Davis (13.4 ppg), who has the only other two SLC weekly honors. Riding a six-game winning streak, Adams and the Cards will have their final two home regular season games beginning Thursday night at 5:00 p.m., against Southeastern Louisiana.
