SULPHUR, La. — It's been a busy day in the Bayou State, with the Louisiana governor saying there's a "really good chance" he will close schools for the rest of the year hours after the Louisiana High School Athletic Association made the tough decision to cancel high school sports for the rest of the spring season.
While the University Interscholastic League here in Texas still insists on waiting until a later date for a final decision, this hits extremely close to home.
Despite his disappointment, Sulphur baseball coach Sam Moore understood the why the decision was made.
"I read it like everybody else this morning. Of course I read it with great disappointment. We were just trying to hang onto the little hope that we had. But then again the safety of all of our guys are the most important thing. So it was a sad day for us. At the same time the LHSAA, they're in the same predicament. We're in uncharted waters, I get that. We're trying to keep people at home where we can stop spreading the virus. Louisiana is a state that's been hit hard. So I get all the stuff that's going on. But at the same time I was just trying to prepare for the best.
