SILSBEE, Texas — Early Volleyball season means a plethora of tournaments for our local squads.

This past weekend the Silsbee Tigers played host to a Volleyball Varsity Tournament that held 12 different volleyball programs from around the 409.

The schools that participated are as listed:

  • Beaumont United
  • Silsbee
  • Port Arthur Memorial
  • Deweyville
  • Evadale
  • Jasper
  • Warren
  • Hemphill
  • Kountze
  • West Hardin
  • Woodville
  • Orangefield

The championship game came down to the two undefeated squads at that time, the Woodville Lady Eagles and the Orangefield Lady Bobcats.

The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead in the first set of the match but the Eagles swarmed back to take the set further until #6 Paisley Reeves put a block up from #16 Avery Gazzaway's spike attempt to give the Cats' the first set victory.

However, the Lady Eagles relatively owned the second set taking that one 25-18.

Which brought the championship game to a final set, first to 15 wins.

The Lady Eagles jumped out to an early lead yet again and the Lady Bobcats sent one out of bounds to give the match and the tournament championship win over to the Lady Eagles.

Postgame, Head Coach Kayla Conner talked about how this kind of a tournament win can help you for the remainder of the season going forward.

"Trusting one another to show up when other ones are down and finding way to put the ball away when we [are in need] of big points, big serves, it's looking good," Conner said about her squad.

The next test for the Lady Eagles will be versus Livingston at home on August 20 starting at 4:30 pm.
