Orangefield upsets top seeded Kountze in 60-55 stunner

Bobcats got out with a 60-55 upset over their district rival to tie things up at the top of the district.

ORANGEFIELD, Texas — It felt like Friday nigh lights in February with how many fans packed the stands at Orangefield Independent School District to watch the undefeated Kountze Lions take on the Bobcats.

Kountze had trouble finding the rhythm they've had all season long. While the Bobcats, on the other hand, were firing on all cylinders.

The Lions did make it interesting in second half action, but the Bobcats got out with a 60-55 upset over their district rival to tie things up at the top of the district.

Just shortly after scoring his 1000th career point as a sophomore, Jaden Scales took command tonight beyond the arch by providing 24 points.

His teammate Zach Wrinkle provided his own power by producing a double-double tonight with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

"This is a playoff atmosphere so this is a really good experience for us and I think its invaluable as far as being able to play in a big game," said Bobcats Coach Bryan Whitmire.

Orangefield's last remaining game is Tuesday, February 13 at Kirbyville (3-10).

The Kountze Lions, however, suffered their first loss in district play tonight.

Mason Donald still produced his normal numbers as he collected 18 points.

Zac Sells fouled out in the 4th quarter where the Lions could have used his height and ability to rebound to help try and salvage a win, but even with the ejection, Sells finished with the second most points on the team at 15.

The Lions will finish the year at home against the third place Buna Cougars next Tuesday.
