New park to open in Port Arthur for families to plant fruit, vegetables, enjoy playground

As part of a settlement with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Valero will be assisting with the grand opening and planting after the ceremony

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Valero and the the newly created West Port Arthur Community Garden Association will hold a grand opening on Wednesday for a park designed for families to gather and plant fruits and vegetables, play on the facility's playground and enjoy gardens.

The grand opening for West Port Arthur Park and Community Garden will be held on Wednesday, April 17, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. and planting will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 601 W. Rev. Dr. Ransom Howard Street in Port Arthur. Community leaders and officials will be present at the ceremony along Eighth Street near the Westside Development Center.

As part of a settlement with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Valero will be assisting with the grand opening and planting after the ceremony according to a Valero news release.

The park will be a place for families to grow fruit and vegetables and be a gathering place for locals residents. 

The park will have a pavilion and raised garden beds, a playground and restrooms according to the release. 

The newly created West Port Arthur Community Garden Association will oversee and manage the park and garden according to the release.
