UPDATE: Second suspect arrested after stabbing of off-duty Port Arthur Police officer

A spokesperson for the Port Arthur Police Department Tuesday told 12News a second arrest has been made in connection with the aggravated assault of a police officer.

A spokesperson for the Port Arthur Police Department Tuesday told 12News a second arrest has been made in connection with the aggravated assault of a police officer.

Early Tuesday morning a police spokesperson identified the man arrested Monday as Joal Morgan Riley, 46, of Woodville. He is charged with aggravated assault of a public servant. Later in the morning 12News learned that a second person had been arrested. As of 8 a.m. police have only identified the second person arrested as a 44-year-old female. She has been charged with aggravated assault/family violence with a deadly weapon.

Police say the charges against Riley and the unnamed are the result of the stabbing of an off-duty police officer on Thursday at the Willow Lakes Apartment Complex.

The Port Arthur Police Department Monday held a news conference in which a spokesperson said few details are being released to protect the integrity of the investigation.

"The investigation's ongoing", said John Owens, chief Deputy for the Port Arthur Police Department.

"It's fluid. We're still gathering evidence, speaking to potential witnesses and putting this case together. We've been able to reach a point where we were able to find probable cause to place this person under arrest and we did so. However, there is still a lot of work to be done regarding this investigation," said Chief Deputy Owens.

The officer who was stabbed was released from the hospital on Friday.
