Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush is set to visit Jasper and Newton Counties on Thursday to encourage Hurricane Harvey survivors to apply for the Homeowner Assistance Program (HAP).
Bush is scheduled to visit the HAP office in Jasper, as well as the office in Newton County near Deweyville according to a news release from Texas General Land Office.
Bush said Harvey damaged thousands of home and devastated many Texans, and that HAP will help Texans still trying to rebuild according to the release.
The General Land Office has allocated more than a billion dollars to this program according to the release. Bush says GLO expects “to receive more applications than funds available,” according to the release.
The program is first-come, first-served, and Bush encourages interested people to apply quickly according to the release.
The visits will be held on Thursday, January 10 according to the release. Bush is scheduled to be at the Jasper Homeowner Assistance Program Office at 710 S. Wheeler Street in Jasper from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. and is set to be at the Newton County Homeowner Assistance Program Center/Deweyville Senior Center at 43435 State Highway 87 South in Orange from 1:45 p.m to 2:15 p.m.

AUSTIN - On Thursday, January 10, 2019, Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush will visit Deep East and Southeast Texas to encourage Hurricane Harvey survivors to apply for the Homeowner Assistance Program (HAP). Commissioner Bush will visit the HAP offices in Jasper and Newton (near Deweyville) counties meet with local officials, visit with applicants, and talk to the media.
"Hurricane Harvey damaged thousands of homes and devastated the livelihoods of countless Texans along the coast," said Commissioner Bush. "The Homeowner Assistance Program will help thousands of Texans who are still struggling to rebuild their homes and their lives. The GLO has allocated more than a billion dollars to this program, but we do expect to receive more applications than funds available. The program is first-come, first-served, so if folks are interested in applying, they should do so quickly."

The media is invited to attend both events.
The Texas General Land Office (GLO) allocated $1.098 billion Community Development Block Grants for Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), for rehabilitation and reconstruction of thousands of owner-occupied single-family homes damaged by Hurricane Harvey. Homeowners in Harris County and the city of Houston will be able to apply for similar programs funded by direct allocations.
