Hundreds attended an event to raise money and support for a Jasper woman who lost her legs in a freak train accident in November.

Since the fall, Myah has been in the hospital, recovering from the tragic event. Saturday many bought baked goods and bid in a silent auction at the American Legion Post 33 in Beaumont to help raise her spirits.

“The support has been great,” Regina McDonald, her mother said. “It makes you feel really good to know that there is that many people out there that care.”

Her mother said the support has been successful in keeping her daughters morale high as she recovers. But the longer she stays in the hospital, the more expensive her medical bills get.

“Sometimes I get the bills in the mail and I don't open them yet because I'm afraid to start looking at them,” her mother said.

After 24 surgeries and in need of two prosthetic legs that cost more than $10,000 a piece, Myah’s mother said she needs the communities continued support more than ever.

Her mother tells 12news the next fundraiser for her daughter will be on February 20 at LogOn Café in Beaumont.
