PORT NECHES, Texas — Kenneth Mitchell said as a parent, you never stop worrying about your children.
His daughter is no longer a young girl, but his instincts are still the same.
"At 1:30 this morning, she called me up and said that water was running into her house," Mitchell said.
His first thought was to leave his home in Beaumont to check on his daughter.
"She said there are tornados out, you need to stay at home," Mitchell said.
He decided to check the damage in the morning. When he arrived, it was worse than they anticipated.
"Probably a 24-inch tree laying on the hood of her car," Mitchell said. "There's probably a 20-inch hole in the roof above the garage. The gutters are torn down."
She may have suffered the most damage on the block, but others said this storm was difficult for them also. One neighbor said it brought back flashbacks for him.
"I was thinking my house was about to be destroyed," another Port Neches resident, Anthony Clay said.
Clay said he couldn't help but to think about Harvey.
"Especially when I looked out my window and saw the entire street submerged in water, and there was no way of getting out of the driveway."
Kenneth said he's thankful his daughter is ok.
Material things can be replaced, but a life cannot.
"It's a blessing that there wasn't more damage than what it was," he said.
