BEAUMONT, Texas — The race for Beaumont City Council's two at-large seats should be interesting as several candidates announce their plans to run for the seats nearly a month before the filing period begins.
A total of three candidates have now announced their intentions to run for the pair of Beaumont City Council At-Large seats.
During Tuesday's Beaumont City Council meeting, Ward Three council member Audwin Samuel announced that he would be running for an At-Large seat. He was first elected as the Ward Three councilman in 1984 and served through 1993. He was elected again in 1999 and has held the Ward Three seat since then.
Early Wednesday morning, Beaumont businessman Mike Williams, who was planning a run for the Ward Two seat, announced that he will now be seeking one of the two At-Large seats.
Williams, in his announcement, noted that he believes making the switch "is the best way to serve our entire city" following Randy Feldschau's announcement that he was running for mayor.
Feldschau, one of two incumbent At-Large council members, announced his mayoral run three days ago on Sunday, December 15, 2024.
Williams says supporting first responders will be one of his top priorities. in addition to public safety. His other focus will be responsible financial management.
AJ Turner, the other incumbent At-Large council member, confirmed to 12News late Tuesday night that he intended to run for re-election in May 2025.
If re-elected, Turner, who was first elected in 2021, will be serving his third term on the council.
The filing period for candidates wishing to run in the 2025 municipal elections is January 15, 2050. The deadline to file is February 14, 2025.
The municipal election will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
