Southeast Texas prepares for District 21 runoff race

Early voting for the District 21 Primary runoff between Texas Speaker Dade Phelan and David Covey starts Monday.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Texas — Election leaders in Jasper, Orange and Jefferson Counties have been hard at work making sure the District 21 Primary runoff goes off without a hitch.

A race that has quickly become one of the hottest in Texas.

"We have three counties that are going to be playing in outcome of this, so yes it will be the biggest one and all eyes are on us," said Jefferson County Clerk, Roxanne Acosta-Hellberg.

Early voting for the District 21 Primary runoff between Texas Speaker Dade Phelan and David Covey starts Monday.

Many Southeast Texans have been wondering who can vote and where to go for said voting. First off, you must live in the District 21 boundaries.

"We do have a link on our website and it will lead you straight to a map that will designate who your representative is," said Acosta-Hellberg.

District 21 covers all of Jasper and Orange Counties, and parts of Jefferson County. Roxanne Acosta-Hellberg says to be sure to double check your location.

"It's some parts of Beaumont area and of course it eliminates some parts of groves," said Acosta-Hellberg.

So for those who do live in district 21, who is eligible to vote?

"If you didn't vote as democrat in the primary you can show up and vote in this one, and if you voted as a republican you definitely want to come back," said Acosta-Hellberg.

Even if someone didn't vote in either parties primary, they are still eligible to vote.

"I would just remind everyone to bring your I.D. we ask that you place your phone away. We're ready, we have been preparing for this race," said Acosta-Hellberg.
