BEAUMONT, Texas — A Beaumont businessman who had previously planned to run for the Ward Two seat has announced he will instead run for one of two At-Large seats on the Beaumont City Council.
Early Wednesday morning, Beaumont businessman Mike Williams, who was planning a run for the Ward Two seat, announced that he will now be seeking one of the two At-Large seats.
Williams, in his announcement, noted that he believes making the switch "is the best way to serve our entire city" following Randy Feldschau's announcement that he was running for mayor.
Feldschau, one of two incumbent At-Large council members, announced his mayoral run three days ago on Sunday, December 15, 2024.
Williams says supporting first responders will be one of his top priorities. in addition to public safety. His other focus will be responsible financial management.
"Now, more than ever, we need leaders who will prioritize the needs of our first responders, strengthen the city’s financial foundation, and deliver solutions that directly improve the lives of all residents—not waste resources on unnecessary or ineffective projects," Williams said in the announcement.
A total of three candidates have now announced their intentions to run in the race including incumbent At-Large council member AJ Turner and Ward Three council member Audwin Samuel.
The filing period for candidates wishing to run in the 2025 municipal elections is January 15, 2050. The deadline to file is February 14, 2025.
The municipal election will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025.
