JEFFERSON COUNTY, Texas — An independent candidate has filed to run in the November election for the Precinct 1 Jefferson County Commissioner position.

Jefferson County Pct. 1 Commissioner Vernon Pierce died of cancer April 14, 2024, after he won the GOP nomination for the November election.

Brandon Willis was then nominated from six candidates seeking the Republican nomination left open by Commissioner Pierce's death making him the likely winner because at that time there was no opposing candidate. No democrat candidate filed to run.

August 19 is the deadline for an independent to file and this afternoon the county judge received a filing.

The independent candidate who filed is Addie Allen, 72, of Beaumont.

Allen will now face Republican nominee Willis in November.

12News is working to find more confirmed information about Allen, we will update when and if we find out more.
