Chris Borne defeats Michael Boudreaux to secure third term as Groves Mayor

Two City Council seats, the Mayor, and City Marshal are all up for grabs

GROVES, Texas — Incumbent Chris Borne has defeated political newcomer Michael Boudreaux and officially secured his third term as the Mayor of Groves.

Both candidates ran on the platform to improve infrastructure around the city of Groves.

Mayor Borne says that he has already started on several projects intended on doing just that.

"We've started projects on local infrastructure. We've gotten certain grants that have repaired streets and drainage lines,” said Borne.

While both candidates obviously hoped it would be their name called on election night, the race was anything but contentious.

“I think Mayor Borne is doing a good job, I think he's doing the best he can. I'm not saying I'd do anything different, just maybe a different way to go about it, that's all," said Boudreaux.

With Mayor Borne going as far to point out the class his opponent has exemplified.

"Michael Boudreaux has been a gracious opponent, he's a nice guy. Unfortunately, he's running against me, so I hope he loses," said a laughing Borne.

In his third term as Mayor Borne has plenty of work ahead of him, and several hurdles to face, in order to get the city’s infrastructure where they want it.

"We don't have any major industry which hurts us on the tax front. We don't have a lot of new construction; we can't grow our base. What we are relying on is people coming in, tearing down old structures, building new ones, finding a new way to bring in new things to the city," said Mayor Borne.
