Beaumont organizations come together to make sure you’re eligible to cast a ballot this November

Texas purged 1.1 million people from the state's voter roll and now deputy registrars and community members are racing against the clock to get people registered.

BEAUMONT, Texas — It's the final push to get people registered to vote and Beaumont community members are coming together ahead of the upcoming deadline.

In August, Texas purged 1.1 million people from the state's voter roll and now deputy registrars and community members are racing against the clock to get people registered.

"The thing is, presidential time is coming up. And the vote really matters. A lot of people say oh it doesn't matter. It does matter," said King Food Supermarket store manager, Priscilla Bellard.

The 2020 presidential election was close.

"Every vote counts. Just look at how long it took to count up the votes. And how close the election was last year. If you don't believe your vote counts, just look at it," said Big Boyz Toys Corvette Club President, Gregory Lee.

Local positions will also be on the ballot in November.

"It's our community we live here. And we want to have a voice, in who's representing us. In the judge positions, in the sheriff's positions. We want to have a voice," said Deputy Registrar Shirley Walker.

"If you're not registered to vote, you don't have an opportunity to express how you feel. And what your thoughts are," said Golden Triangle Links President Ingrid Holmes.

The organization is one of the many that will be setup of at the King Food Supermarket on Magnolia Street and Mike's Furniture in The Avenues on Saturday, October 5. They will be there from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. to help get people registered to vote.

"We want to reach those people who have not had an opportunity to vote, for whatever reason. Inquire, come out. These deputy registrars can help you," Holmes said.

"We're gonna have fun, you're gonna have food given out. You know, just bring everybody that hasn't been able to vote, bring them out," Bellard said.

Big Boyz Toys Corvette Club will also be at both locations.

"Everybody needs to vote. And if our being out there attracts some more attention to the voter registration drive that's going on, we can do that. And will do that gladly," said Lee.

All you need to bring is your ID.

"I'm so thankful to partner with all of them. And I'm just ready for this weekend to come so we can get everybody out to vote for our community," said Bellard.

The last day to register to vote in the November election is Monday, October 7.
