BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont City Councilman AJ Tuner has announced he plans to seek a second term in the upcoming municipal election.
Turner, who is finishing his first term as an at-large council member, took office for his first term in 2021.
He announced his intentions to run for reelection on his Facebook page Wednesday morning.
"After praying and speaking with my wife and family, I am pleased to announce that I will be running for re-election," he said in the post. "I am asking for your vote, support, and prayers."
The municipal election will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Early voting will be from April 24, 2023 through May 2, 2023, according to the city.
The filing deadline for the May 6 election is 5 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2023, according to the City of Beaumont website.
Turner is lifelong Beaumont resident who graduated from Central High School in 2005 before attending Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, on an athletic scholarship according to his bio on the Beaumont City Council website.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice and returned to Beaumont where he worked as a parole officer with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for seven years according to his bio.
He is married and has four daughters.
He is the founder and CEO of AJ Turner Enterprises, which handles marketing and mentorship programs.
Longtime NAACP-Beaumont chapter leader and pastor Michael Cooper announced on January 5, 2023 that he would be running for one of the at-large seats.
Randy Feldschau, who holds the other at-large seat with Turner, announced his run for re-election for a third term on January 23, 2023.
Terry Preston, a longtime Beaumont resident and pastor, announced his run for an at-large seat on January 10, 2023.
