BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Police say the house where a pregnant mom and her 1-year-old son were shot has been on their radar.
A Beaumont Police spokesperson told 12News that there had been several complaints about the neighborhood.
Police say that the woman’s boyfriend, who is the 1-year-old’s father, was in the home and she and her child were caught in the crossfire between him and the suspects.
A woman who lives next door from where police say a home invasion lead to the shooting of the woman, who is eight months pregnant, tells 12News that she had no idea that something like this could happen so close to her home.
"When people say this close to home, like right next door to me,” Chonda Savoy told 12News Thursday afternoon as she stood in a neighbor’s yard across the street from where police had stretched crime scene tape around the front of a home in the 8700 block of Newfield Lane.
When Savoy came home from work she found a crime scene next to her home.

Police say the shooting happened during a “home invasion” and stress that the shooting was not random but they believe someone at the home was “acquainted” with the suspects.
"The 21 years I've been living in this neighborhood, it's really a quiet neighborhood,” Savoy told 12News.
They also say the shooting was drug-related and that there was “narcotics activity” happening at the home in the quiet neighborhood less than half a mile from Amelia Elementary School.
The school along with two other campuses in the area were briefly put on “lock out” according to the Beaumont Independent School District.
