BAYTOWN, TEXAS - Officials say there was a release Wednesday afternoon at an ExxonMobil refinery in Baytown.

The release occurred around 4 p.m. Friday at the plant in the 2800 block on Decker Drive. Authorities say air quality testing showed no impact offsite from the facility, and they are working to resume normal operations at the plant.

According to The Baytown Sun dozens of workers gathered along Decker Drive about 3:30 p.m. near the ExxonMobil facility as sirens sounded.

ExxonMobil released the following statement:

“The ExxonMobil Baytown Refinery had an operational issue this afternoon resulting in a release. There is no need for the community to shelter in place. Personnel are working expeditiously to ensure the safety of all personnel and resume normal operations. As a precaution, our Industrial Hygiene staff continues to conduct air quality monitoring around the plant and in the community. We have confirmed that there is no offsite impact.”
