Nederland ISD is one step closer to bond project

Nederland school board members appear to be a step closer to moving forward with a big bond project.

NEDERLAND, Texas — Nederland school board members appear to be a step closer to moving forward with a big bond project.

Tuesday they heard a final presentation from a group that has spent months studying what's needed in the school facilities.

"The citizens were well represented," said Lance Howell, a member of the Citizens' Advisory Committee.

Howell says they used a city-wide survey of registered voters to study which projects had the most support.

The more than 83 million dollars from the bond would go to a new high school and almost 50 million would go to new learning areas, while more than 11 million dollars would go to renovating the middle school.

The rest would go to upgrading the stadium and improving safety and security at the district.

Parents have been touring campuses and holding meetings since October to find where in the schools the money can be spent.

The board will be meeting tomorrow at a closed session and they'll decide if taxpayers will end up voting on this or not.

Voters will have the final say at the ballot box in May.
