The Orange County Sheriff's Office, Vidor Police and the Coast Guard are investigating a drowning in the Neches River. The victim has been identified as Richard Schultz, III, 27, of Port Neches.

The call came in as a drowning at 7:19. p.m. At first, authorities had a hard time finding where the call came in because callers were on a sand bar.

Authorities then rushed to Mansfield Ferry Road in south Vidor where they were able to get to the water from private property. CPR was performed on the victim but attempts were unsuccessful.

Schultz was pronounced dead by Orange County Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Judge Janice Menard.

Deputies tell 12 News HD Schultz was on a boat with friends when he fell into the water.

Authorities say when friends noticed he wasn't on the boat, they saw him floating in the water.

A preliminary autopsy report shows Schultz died from drowning and that there are no signs of foul play.
