CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii News)
Corpus Christi firefighters were called out Wednesday morning to deal with a reported case of smoke coming from a home in the 3600 block of Saxet on this city's westside. It turned out the smoke was coming from a barbecue pit in which fire crews found a dog's burning carcass.
The 20-year old suspect, Rosendo Gonzales, said he was petting the dog when it bit him. He later told detectives he reacted by injuring the dog and then panicked and put the dog in the barbecue pit.
"He was scared. Didn't answer the door. Once relatives arrived he was contacted by authorities, and now he is just going through due process," said Senior Officer Travis Pace of the Corpus Christi Police Department.
Gonzales is now behind bars facing charges of animal cruelty.
