PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Workforce Solutions Southeast Texas has teamed up with JCL Safety Services on Tuesday for a job fair that could give residents a chance to start a new career as a fire watcher or confined space attendant.
More than 100 people filled the lobby of the Workforce Solutions in Port Arthur to attend the job fair, which turned out to be a success for dozens of people. A total of 80 people walked out with new careers at JCL Safety Services.
Fire watcher Leneta Mouton was one of the over 130 people looking for a new career.
"If you, you know hear about a job fair, go see about it, because you never know you can encourage someone else," said Mouton.
She came to the job fair in hopes to find a new career.
"I was just looking for another job. I had got off one, and it's just a good experience for me, because I get to meet, you know different people, and stuff," she said. "And I just get to learn about other jobs that they might have besides the one that I'm actually going for."
Vice President of Operations for JCL Safety Services Eric Biggs was at the job fair and provided a description on some of the job duties for new employees at JCL Safety Services.
"Like a refinery client, and they're gonna help them with spark containment and make sure that they don't start any fires unexpectedly," said Biggs. "They'll look for things like combustibles and flammable and make sure that the areas clean and free of debris."
This was a chance for many job seekers to be able to support themselves and family.
"That's what it's all about, keeping the money rolling, you know for our families," said Mouton.
Mouton was grateful for the opportunity and stated that the Workforce Solutions helped her create a resume and taught her how to prepare for interviews.
According to the Workforce Solutions business liaison Alysha Hill, they want to help the community become more self-sufficient.
"We're here to help the community become self-sufficient and get them connected to jobs," she said.
There are four upcoming spring job fairs and some will have over 60 different employers on site to help fill multiple positions from sales, nursing, industry and more.
"We're their to encourage you to attend these job fairs, that can be life changing. Please reach out to your workforce in your area and they can prepare you for it," said Hill.
The first spring job fair will take place in Hardin County tomorrow at 10 a.m.
