WOODVILLE, Texas — The Woodville Independent School District and Woodville Police Department are investigating a report of a student making threats against the high school.

A report was made on Thursday afternoon that a student made threatening statements against Woodville High School.

The district and police are working together to investigate the report.

A potential second threat was posted to social media where someone was threatening to "shoot up the buckeye locals." However, it was discovered that this was not directed at Woodville ISD and instead came from out of the state.

"Dear Woodville Eagle Families,
This letter serves as follow-up to the communications sent by WISD yesterday regarding two different situations. The first was a safety notification related to a potential threat made by a student against the high school. The second was in response to viral social media post that mentioned Woodville ISD threatening to "shoot up the buckeye locals." The second threat was not directed at Woodville ISD and instead referenced a situation out of state. The potential threat against the high school is currently under investigation and WISD is fully cooperating with local law enforcement. As a precaution, the campus has taken all available measures to provide heightened security on the campus, including increased police presence and removal of the student from the campus.

As many of you are aware, there is a concerning trend across the country of both credible and non-credible threats of violence against schools. We want to emphasize that Woodville ISD takes every threat seriously, and each one is thoroughly investigated and addressed. Ensuring the safety of our students is, and always will be, our top priority.

It is important for all our families to know and understand that our district follows a state-approved safety plan that outlines clear procedures for communication and action during emergencies as required by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). This plan prioritizes student safety and is designed to help WISD respond swiftly and effectively to any potential threat - from severe weather and school closings to safety notifications of potential threats, active acts of violence, or any other type of emergency.

Specific to parent and community notification, Woodville ISD utilizes Apptegy Thrillshare for all emergency mass communications and safety notifications to parents and guardians. This also includes the ROOMS app which allows two-way communication between parents/guardians and school via text message and emails. Different methods are used at different times depending upon the severity and urgency of the situation. For example mass communication may be used via all methods (phone calls, texts, emails, website and social media) for active, ongoing situations such as emergency closures and active incidents of violence or lockdowns (not drills), while only text messages, emails, or social media may be used for general notification of safety issues or concerns."
