Woman charged with murder after man found stabbed, beaten with baseball bat in Port Neches

The man has been identified as Gregory Mandle Bobenoaux, II, 24. Police say a 'physical disturbance' took place between the woman and Bobenoaux.

PORT NECHES, Texas — A 20-year-old Port Neches woman charged with the Friday night murder of her boyfriend told police that he hit her in the head and choked her to the point of blacking out while she held their child. When she came to, her hands were covered in blood she told police.

At around 9:30 p.m. Friday night, Port Neches Police officers were sent the The Palms apartments in the 800 block of Ridgewood Dr. after receiving a report that an assault took place. Dispatchers told officers while they were headed to the apartment that there may be a body there, according to a probable cause affidavit in the case.

When a Port Neches officer got to the apartment he found the body of Gregory Mandle Bobenoaux, II, 24, on the living room floor in a pool of blood, according to the affidavit.

Bobenoaux appeared to have a "deep puncture" on the side of his neck and "massive blunt force trauma to his head and neck," according to the affidavit.

Police say that based on evidence observed at the scene, it appeared that the man had been stabbed and beaten with a baseball bat, according to a Facebook post from police.

Neighbors told police they heard a loud fight coming from the apartment of Bobenoaux and his girlfriend, McKenzie Renee Eary, 20, according to the affidavit.

When police spoke to Eary at the Medical Center of Southeast Texas she told them that when she came home from work she got into an argument with her live-in boyfriend, Bobenoaux, the affidavit said.

She told them that while she was holding their child, Bobenoaux hit in her in the back of the head with a closed fist and "...continued to assault her to the point that he was choking and hitting her until she blacked out," according to the affidavit.

Eary told police that when she woke up she found her hands covered in blood. She then called a family member to come get her and the child.

Neighbors told police that some time after hearing the fight they saw an older woman arrive at Eary's apartment and could then hear the woman yelling , saying "how, how, how, how."

The woman then took Eary to the hospital where she was later arrested by officers and taken to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility to be booked.

Eary is being held on a murder charge and her bond has been set at $100,000, according to jail records.

Police are still investigating the circumstances of the incident.
