LUMBERTON, Texas — Five cases of Whooping Cough have been confirmed across four Hardin County schools.
The five confirmed cases of Pertussis, also known as Whooping Cough, along with six probable cases were confirmed Tuesday by Sharon Whiley, of the Hardin County Health Department.
Three Lumberton Independent School District campuses and one in the West Hardin County Consolidated Independent School District were affected, according to Whitley.
On the Lumberton High School campus there were three confirmed and one probable case while there was one confirmed and three probable cases between the middle and intermediate schools.
Whitley told 12News that the confirmed cases from the Lumberton campuses had contact with each other.
At West Hardin High School there was one confirmed and two probable cases. All three of those were from the same family, Whitley told 12News.
Lumberton ISD released a statement saying that the health department did not consider the cases to be an outbreak.
Extra mitigation measures are being taken by the district at all campuses in addition to its routine sanitation procedures, according to the statement.
The statement went on to note that the district is fully compliant with all state vaccination requirements.
In Texas all students are required to be vaccinated against Pertussis, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.
