West Orange City Council to consider adding additional police officer, formation of Economic Development Corporation

West Orange Mayor Randy Branch tells 12News these changes are a direct result of growth caused by the new Golden Triangle Polymers facility.

WEST ORANGE, Texas — West Orange City Council will vote to add an additional police officer and vote on the formation of an Economic Development Corporation at Monday's council meeting.

West Orange Mayor Randy Branch tells 12News these changes are a direct result of growth caused by the new Golden Triangle Polymers facility.

The formation of the Economic Development Corporation will allow the city to be competitive with nearby cities as they compete for growth resulting from the plant.

If approved, the corporation will have a seven-member board that will help guide growth in West Orange.  The board would be formed shortly after it's approved.

Board positions would be filled with volunteers, according to Branch.

Only four positions can be filled by city employees or council members, the rest must come from outside city employment.

Branch says the city's police force needs to be a little larger as a result of the extra traffic and need for patrols caused by the plant.

The council will vote on these two items Monday evening.
