Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department receives donated vehicle

The Ford F-150 will be used as a command truck and for answering medical emergencies.

BEECH GROVE, Texas — The Beech Grove Volunteer Fire Department have a new addition to their emergency vehicle fleet.

The Orange County ESD #1 and Texas A&M Forest Service Initiative donated the vehicle through the "Helping Hands Program" that allows a city or government entity to do donate a vehicle to a Texas fire department.

The Ford F-150 will be used as a command truck and for answering medical emergencies.

It came with everything needed from emergency equipment to an extra storage cabin.

Fire Chief James Gunter says he is beyond grateful for the donation.

"We just had the worst fire season we've ever had over this past summer. That's not news to y'all, but y'all have been right there the whole way. Having this vehicle and having the ability to run an operation out of it when we've never had that before. It's a game changer for us," he said.

Gunter says the program absolves the donor from any liability.
