Hardin County Judge Wayne McDaniel issues voluntary evacuation for residents in low-lying areas

Residents should closely monitor the Neches River, Village Creek, Pine Island Bayou, all tributaries that drain into these waterways

HARDIN COUNTY, Texas — County Judge Wayne McDaniel has issued a voluntary evacuation in Hardin County for residents in low lying areas after heavy rain passed through Southeast Texas Thursday evening.

The threat for flooding is high near rivers, creeks and bayous. Residents should closely monitor the Neches River, Village Creek, Pine Island Bayou and all tributaries that drain into these waterways, according to a release from Judge McDaniel.

Those living in low lying areas should consider evacuating their families and pets now or at an appropriate time before roadways become impassible due to flooding.

Water is expected to continue to rise and waterways are predicted to crest at major and minor flood stages.

The County Judge of Hardin County, Texas, received information regarding the updated forecasted trajectory of floodwaters from the United States National Weather Service, which is expected to result in flooding that will cause highways and roadways to become impassable for an extended period of time, and may have the potential of causing severe bodily injury or the loss of human life in the low-lying areas of Hardin County, Texas, according to a release.

Hardin County will not provide shuttle services for residents in flooded areas.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
