A Vidor sex offender ordinance approved by the City Council last November is now being enforced with two new citations this year.
So far in 2018, the city of Vidor has 53 registered sex offenders. The ordinance, which was implemented in January, restricts sex offenders living within 1,500 feet of places where children gather. This includes parks, churches, daycare centers, schools, and among others.
"We are trying to make sure our community is safe," said Rod Carroll, Vidor Police Chief. "Like many other communities, we are trying to protect the most vulnerable; children."
You can go to the Texas Department of Public Safety website to find out if there are any sex offenders in your area.
