Vidor Police Chief won't run for Jefferson County sheriff after all due to 'residency technicality'

He said Monday he would make an official announcement on Dec. 3

VIDOR, Texas — Vidor’s police chief told 12News he won’t run for the office of Jefferson County sheriff after all.

Rod Carroll said in a Monday news release he would officially announce his candidacy on December 3.

"Due to a residency technicality, I feel it is best that I withdraw from the race for Sheriff for Jefferson County 2020. As a person of integrity and credibility, I would not be able to go forward under the perception of having violated the election code residency requirement. I would like to thank everyone for their support and I wish all the candidates the best in 2020," Carrol said in a statement on Tuesday.
