BEAUMONT, Texas — Southeast Texas veterans who need to get to the Veterans Affairs hospital in Houston for treatment can now get a free ride there and back on weekdays.
Veterans are able to catch the free shuttle each weekday morning at the Beaumont VA Outpatient Clinic according to a news release from the VA.
“We are thrilled to offer Veterans this new service, making it easier for them to get to the main VA in Houston for specialized medical care,” said Medical Center Director Frank Vazquez, a Navy Veteran, said according to the release.
The shuttle leaves at 7:30 a.m. each weekday from the clinic at 3420 Plaza Circle and will take veterans and one caregiver or spouse to the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston for medical appointments according to the release.
The shuttle leaves the VA hospital in Houston at 2:30 p.m. to head back to Beaumont.
Southeast Texas veterans who have appointments at the Houston VA can call (409) 981-8550 to reserve their spot on the 40-passenger shuttle, which is wheelchair accessible, the release said. Each veteran can also reserve a seat for either their spouse or caregiver.
“Our goal is to provide as much health care as possible to our Veterans here in Beaumont, but when they need specialty care or additional services at our main medical center in Houston, we want to make it as easy as possible for them to get there and back,” said Shanthi Reddy, M.D., Beaumont VA Outpatient Clinic medical director, said according to the release.
