VIDOR, Texas — Developers have big plans for an empty lot in Vidor and hope it will bring more families to the area.
An upcoming subdivision is expected to bring anywhere from 60 to 70 new homes to city.
The subdivision will be called Pirates Cove and is set to be located off Tram Road. David Brewer is the developer of the neighborhood and a longtime Vidor resident.
Brewer is excited to see his vision come to life.
“It looked like a good idea, and it's turned into something a lot bigger project than I initially started into,” Brewer said. "It's been a lot of fun. We are very happy with how things are going. “
Brewer wants people to know the small town is a great place to live. The project has been years in the making, and crews have already poured a new road to prepare for the new homes that will be built.
The project has five phases and is entering phase one of construction. As of now, there is no set deadline for when it will be completed.
"I just go as fast as I can and do whatever I can at the time," Brewer said. "So there's about five phases with several little cul-de-sacs in the subdivision. We are on phase one. We just poured about 1100 linear-feet of road here."
Hannah Odle is a realtor who believes the project comes at a great time. Odle said there's a big demand for houses in Vidor due to the Chevron Phillips Expansion in Orange but not enough inventory.
"This is a buyer's market, so I think once these houses start coming up every one's going to be picking them up," Odle said. "People are already asking about prices."
The developer is still looking for a builder to sign onto the project.
