Unmarked Orange Police unit struck by car while assisting highway maintenance crew along IH-10 Wednesday morning in Orange

At least one person on the scene appeared to be getting treatment for minor injuries.

ORANGE, Texas — Texas Department of Public Safety troopers are investigating after an unmarked Orange Police unit was struck by a car along Interstate 10 Wednesday morning.

City of Orange officer, Jason Laughlin, was working an off-duty job to assist with traffic control for a highway maintenance crew using an unmarked Ford F150 pickup Monday, February 5, 2024.

The pickup was on the eastbound side of Interstate 10 at FM 1442 with its emergency lights activated when it was struck from behind after slowing down by a Honda passenger car driven by a 31-year-old man just before 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The officer was assisting a crew of Texas Department of Transportation contractors who were doing concrete pavement repairs along the interstate between between FM 1442 and Texas Highway 62.

City of Orange firefighters and police also responded to the wreck along with medics from Acadian Ambulance.

Doorbar was brought to St. Elizabeth Hospital where he received treated for minor injuries.
